Background: A comparative study of two different ethnic populations with Diabetes was done at two separate satellite clinics.
Dr. Ather and Dr. Jamal worked at two separate satellite clinics of Cook County Hospital. The incidence of kidney failure with underlying uncontrolled DM was compared for African American and Hispanic populations. This study was done as a part of graduation requirement, to complete a research project.
Outcome: The incidence of kidney failure was alarmingly high with A1C>9 in the African American group when compared to the Hispanic group. Patients in both the groups had high blood pressure as risk factor.
